Issues

Craig defended a hospitalist in a lawsuit brought by Plaintiff who had undergone a triple amputation following developing necrotizing fasciitis and myositis.  The Plaintiff was seen in the emergency department where various tests were run and released home.  After her condition continued to worsen, she returned to the hospital and was later then admitted to the hospital.  Craig’s client evaluated the patient and called in a surgical consultation who later then performed surgery in an effort to stop the progression of the necrotizing fasciitis/myositis.  Unfortunately, triple amputation of the Plaintiff’s dominant right arm and both legs were necessary as a result of the disseminated intravascular coagulopathy that developed from the necrotizing fasciitis/myositis.  After a three-week jury trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the Defendants and against the Plaintiff.
