Urologist

Issues

Craig successfully defended a physician urologist in a two-week trial.  The Plaintiff presented to the urologist with kidney stones.  The urologist successfully treated the kidney stones and the patient then went on to develop kidney failure nine months later.  The patient was subsequently found to have a rare genetic disorder called primary hyperoxaluria, a condition which has only been reported a couple hundred times in the world’s medical literature.  The Plaintiff went on to require a kidney transplant.  The Plaintiff brought the lawsuit alleging that the Defendant urologist failed to properly treat her kidney stones and failed to diagnosis her primary hyperoxaluria.  After the first trial, the Court declared a mistrial after the jury was unable to render an opinion.  The case was re-tried to a different jury for two weeks and the jury returned a verdict in favor of the Defendant physician and against the Plaintiff.

Case Type

Medical Malpractice

Client

Obstetrician / Gynecologist

Issues

The Plaintiffs brought a wrongful death action against the ob-gyn for the wrongful death of their one day old newborn of an overdose of benzathine penicillin given to treat syphilis. Plaintiffs claimed the ob-gyn failed to properly evaluate, monitor and treat the mother’s syphilitic condition during the pregnancy and the failure to do so required the baby to receive the fatal medication. The jury returned a verdict in spite of the highly emotional nature of the case.
