Robert W. Carney
Biography
Born and raised in Colorado, Bob Carney continues to balance his stellar legal career with his fulfilling personal interests. He has been practicing with his partner Peter Pryor for 38 years, and continues to enjoy his association with his long time partners. Bob has completed over 75 trials in his career, and continues to have an active trial practice in multiple areas of law. Bob’s practice areas are broad, including legal and accounting malpractice defense, personal injury, automobile claims, products liability, premises and homeowner liability, insurance coverage issues, bad faith litigation, and general casualty litigation.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Tennessee in 1964, Bob obtained his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 1967. He has lectured on issues such as Permanent Disability, Uninsured Motorist, Under-Insured Motorist and Bad Faith since 1981 and continues to lecture at seminars to the present day. As a member of the Denver Bar Association and Colorado Bar Association, Bob has served on the Legal Fee Arbitration Committee and the Interprofessional Committee (Chairman 2001-2002). A long time member of the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association, Bob served as Chairman of the Amicus Curiae Committee of the CDLA in 1989. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute, and is a past president of the South East Metro Law Club, as well as an Invited Member of the International Association of Defense Counsel.
Since meeting his wife, Kaye, in college, Bob has been happily married for 40 years. They are proud of their two amazing daughters: one is a Registered Nurse and the other is a Heavy Equipment Operator in Antarctica and a private pilot. Bob enjoys time with his family, and takes interest in tennis and fishing. He enjoys theater productions of all kinds and is an art collector. Bob has a passion for travel, and has visited five of the seven continents. He is a sports enthusiast, who has been a Broncos season ticket holder since 1965, and has attended 2 Olympic Games. He is the past President and Lieutenant Governor of the Civic Center Optimist Club, and is a past member of the Board of Trustees with his United Methodist Church.

Mr. Carney obtained a defense verdict in a case for an accountant who was being sued for complex corporate accounting issues. After two weeks of evidence and volumes of records, the Court returned a verdict in favor of the accountant.

The Plaintiff sued the firm’s client for wrongful termination, asserting he was an employee who had been terminated based on his age and in breach of his contract. The case was tried to a jury, but the Court granted the firm’s motion entered judgment for the firm’s client at the end of the Plaintiff’s. The Court determined the Plaintiff was properly terminated and failed to prove he was an employee or that the firm’s client had breached his agreement.
